Collecting Marbles is a two colour brioche, slightly asymmetric triangle and reversible shawl in fingering weight yarn. Worked in different two-colour-brioche knitting patterns, it uses one skein of self-striping and one skein in a solid colourway to achieve an overall stunning pattern.

The shawl starts from one tip and grows gradually by increasing always at the same side.

I believe that even knitters, who never tried brioche knitting but have an overall good understanding of knitting, can try out this pattern. For some of my test knitters, this was their first brioche knitting project and they all did well. However, as always: swatches are your friends. So I suggest to try out some of the brioche sts on a swatch before starting the shawl.

Size:
Wingspan= 54.5” (138cm)

Gauge:
22 sts & 25 rows= 4” (10cm) measured after blocking in Brioche Ribbing.

Material:
Yarn:
The shawl is knit in two skeins of fingering weight yarn. You can pick just two contrasting colours, however the patterns have the best effect if you choose one solid colour and one self striping or gradient yarn

I used 1 skein of Urth “Uneek” (self striping- colourway “3012”) and one skein in Urth “Harvest (solid colour- colourway “Indigo”).

Total yardage:
Self striping: 374 yds (344m).
Solid colourway: 413 yds (380m).

Other:
Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Techniques:
Knitting, purling, slipping sts with yarn over, brk & brp (brioche knitting), Italian bind off.

The pattern can be worked from the written instruction or the chart.

The sample is worked using one skein of self-striping yarn Urth Uneek Fingering and one skein of solid yarn Urth Harvest Fingering.

Gauge: unblocked – 24 sts x 50 rows= 4” in main pattern,
blocked -23 sts x 44 rows = 4” in main pattern

• Length (along selvedge edge): 75”/187 cm,
• Width: 9½”/24 cm
