Although this sock slipper was relatively simple to knit the pattern instructions left a lot to be desired. I so appreciate generous designers who add notes and tips that help produce the best product. I made a sample sock using Drops Alaska alpaca and although it felted (fulled) beautifully I realized the color work with large loose floats made it impossible to stretch over the heel/arch of the foot. I then made two pair using the exact yarn used in the pattern and made the floats very, very loose which still did not give enough stretch to the cuff after felting.

As for the yarn used, Fritids Garn, it took four times longer to felt by hand than the Drops and the consistency of thickness from skein to skein was wildly off making one sock much denser than the other. Each color of yarn also felted very differently. The pink for example took much longer to felt than the sage. The pattern did not give any instruction on how the designer felted her slippers so I did it by hand and air dried for the most control. I made the Ladies sizes for women who wear size US 7. To felt down to achieve the correct fit the Fritids Garn yarn does become very dense and leave little or no stitch definition. Perfect for a slip on slipper but not so great for a pull on sock.

I am gifting these so do not know how they will fit or wear at this point. If I were to make these again, they are lovely, I would have to find a better way to knit in the color work for maximal stretch if there is such a thing.

Thanks so much for your feedback! We will absolutely pass that on to the design team at Sandnes Garn but we’re glad that you provided such detailed information and we hope it helps another knitter 😉 Be well!
