LEVEL: Knitting 101
Prerequisite: Enthusiasm
This class is designed for the true beginner! Learn everything you need to know about knitting in these three 90-minute classes. These comprehensive classes will get you on your way to be a confident knitter! You will learn the following:
● Different weights and types of yarn
● The relationship between yarn type and needle size
● How to cast on stitches
● How to work the knit stitch and the purl stitch
● How to bind off stitches
● How to measure and make a gauge swatch
● How to read a pattern
● How to fix minor mistakes (dropped stitches, ‘tinking’ or unknitting a row, how to insert a lifeline)
● Basic shaping (increasing and decreasing stitches)
● Basic finishing (weaving in ends, blocking)
● How to measure and make a gauge swatch
Supplies needed: a skein of DK or worsted weight yarn, size 6 needles (circular is recommended, but straight needles are also acceptable), a tapestry needle, small scissors, stitch markers, and a gauge ruler. Supplies needed for class must be purchased from Mother Knitter.
